To Avoid Misunderstanding
Everone is welcome to attend, regardless of any distinction, ability, preference or orientation. Even if you have meditated before we recommend you take the Beginners' Class first rather than just 'turn up'. There are two reasons:
1) It is helpful to you to understand our own approach right from the start of your attendance
2) It is helpful to the concentration of the other meditators if newcomers have a basic understanding of MBW's approach and how it organises itself. Having said this, we encourage questions, openness and participation.
MINORS
Please note that if you are under 16 years of age, you are most welcome to attend our events, but please inform us of your age and inform your parent or guardian of your intention to attend and give them all relevant information about your whereabouts and the organisers' contact numbers. Of course, if you wish to bring your parent or guardian with you that's even better.
MENTAL DISORDER
Note that Buddha Way meditation is not designed specifically as a cure, palliative or therapy for medical difficulties, mental or otherwise. If you have or have had such difficulties you are also welcome to attend for the purposes of meditation practice. Since meditation relieves stress it does have far-reaching benefits.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Meditational experience has no connection with experiences obtained by substance abuse of any kind.
PHYSICAL DISORDER
Learning to sit on a cushion is optional, and is not advisable for anyone with circulatory, or knee and joint, or related problems. Chairs are provided and chair-cushions (wedges) are available.
NO PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP
All Modern Buddha Way events are organised entirely by volunteers, and these events are always free. No professional-client relationship is established between facilitators and participants.
UNIVERSITY OF SURREY PROPERTY
The Quiet Centre is the property of the University of Surrey, and is intended primarily for staff and students. University staff who are running events at the Quiet Centre may invite people from outside the campus in the spirit of service to the community. The University' security office is on duty all day every day. (MBW also meets at Vine Hall, East Molesey, which is managed by Elmbridge Borough Council.)
